NATIONAL PARK SERVICE MORNING REPORT Wednesday, August 22, 2012 INCIDENTS Blue Ridge Parkway Stabbing Victim Found On Parkway On August 20th, rangers received a report of a man walking down the parkway covered in blood. Rangers David Hynes and Dan Vrchota responded and found a 41-year-old man with stab wounds to his arm, abdomen and neck. Although he was upright and walking, he did not acknowledge the rangers' presence. He was taken into custody and treated by the rangers. A local ambulance transported him to a helispot, where he was airlifted to Charlotte Medical Center. He underwent surgery to repair his wounds there and is now in stable condition. His vehicle was found a short distance away in a parkway parking area. Ranger Dustin Gunderson is leading the investigation. [David G. Bauer, Highlands District Ranger] Lake Mead NRA Las Vegas Man Drowns In Sandy Cove Just before midnight on August 18th, the park received a marine band radio emergency call reporting a missing swimmer in Sandy Cove. A search was begun and continued until 3 a.m., then resumed again at daylight with the assistance of Las Vegas Metro PD's dive team. The body of the missing 46-year-old Las Vegas man was found in 30 feet of water shortly thereafter. He was not wearing a PFD. [Kevin Turner] North Cascades NP Motorcyclist Killed In Accident On North Cascades Highway A 35-year-old motorcyclist was killed in an accident on North Cascades Highway east of the Ross Lake Trailhead on Sunday. He was heading east on his 2010 Yamaha when he failed to negotiate a left hand curve and ran off the highway. Rangers provided medical treatment with assistance from two medical doctors until the local ALS ambulance arrived. The man was declared dead at the scene.
