Drug Smuggler Caught And Arrested

On the afternoon of February 6th, rangers heard radio traffic regarding a Border Patrol pursuit that was entering the park and joined in the response. After passing the entrance station and travelling about a half mile into the park, the driver took the vehicle off road before bailing out and fleeing on foot. The vehicle was found to be loaded with marijuana. The driver was taken into custody inside the park by Border Patrol officers and the US Attorney's Office has accepted the case for prosecution. The marijuana was estimated to weigh approximately 100 pounds. [Matt Stoffolano, Chief Ranger, Southeast Arizona Group]
