Boston Area Parks
Parks Take Action Following Marathon Bombings
Several reports were received late yesterday from parks in the Boston area concerning actions being taken in response to the bombings that took place at the end of Monday's Boston Marathon:
Boston NHP/Boston African American NHS - All employees at both parks are accounted for and safe. Tours at both parks were halted yesterday afternoon. Services and programs at Faneuil Hall, the visitor center closest to the site of the incident at Copley Square, were also suspended, and the Charlestown Navy Yard VC was closed. Employees on duty at those two facilities were asked to close out and go to their offices to await further instruction. Bunker Hill Monument was closed and tours there and on the USS Constitution were suspended. All walking tours have been cancelled for today, and the Constitution will remain closed. The Bunker Hill Monument will be closed for climbing, but the Bunker Hill Museum will be open.
John F. Kennedy NHP - All tours at the park have been cancelled for today.

Runner Collapses And Dies During Permitted Event
On the morning of Saturday, April 13th, a 56-year-old Virginia man collapsed 50 feet from the finish line of the Flying Pirate five kilometer run, a permitted special event. CPR was begun almost immediately by EMS personnel at the scene and by off-duty EMS providers who were participating in the race. Dare County EMS, Kill Devil Hills FD and National Park Service rangers were dispatched to assist. The man was flown from First Flight Airstrip to the Outer Banks Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead. [Jon Anglin, Operations Chief]

Glen Canyon NRA - Over the past month, park staff have found 14 adult quagga mussels attached to moored vessels and dock structures at the Wahweap Marina in Lake Powell. None of the adult mussels were close enough together to mate for successful reproduction.
Intermountain Region - After years of work by agencies and individuals in both Mexico and the United States, the Port of Boquillas in Big Bend National Park opened on April 10th.
Yosemite NP - On March 20th, Yosemite emergency services personnel teamed up with Mercy Emergency Medical Services and DNC Parks & Resorts to conduct a mass casualty incident drill at the Badger Pass Ski Area.
Castillo de San Marcos NM - On April 5th, law enforcement rangers from the Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run in St Johns County, Florida.
