Boston Area Parks

Security Measures Heightened Following Bombings

Additional reports have been received on the status of Boston NHP and Boston African American NHS following Monday's bombings. Here's how things stood on Tuesday:

The Bunker Hill Monument was closed to climbing, but the Bunker Hill Museum and Lodge was open.

The USS Constitution was closed and will remain closed to public visitation until further notice.

National Park Service ranger-guided tours of the Black Heritage Trail, the Freedom Trail, and Boston's Trails to Freedom were canceled.

The African Meeting House, the Abiel Smith School, and the Charlestown Navy Yard Visitor Center were closed, but the Faneuil Hall Visitor Center and the Great Hall within Faneuil Hall were open to the public.

Ranger patrols have been stepped up at Bunker Hill and other NPS sites in Boston. Officers from the Massachusetts State Police and Boston Police Department and officers from surrounding communities are stationed outside Faneuil Hall. The Charlestown Navy Yard Visitor Center and the African Meeting House will likely reopen today with ranger guided tours resumed. [Sean Hennessey, Public Affairs Officer]
