Grand Canyon NP

Canadian Doctor Dies In Illegal Wingsuit Jump


On Friday January 24th, a 41-year-old physician from Calgary, Canada, died while HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wingsuit_flying" wing suit jumping off Navajo Nation-managed lands and into the park north of the Little Colorado River.


The Coconino County Sheriff's Office and Grand Canyon National Park rangers are investigating the incident. HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BASE_jumping" BASE jumping and like activities are prohibited within both the Navajo Nation and the park.

Office of Communications - The “Monuments Men,” the team of historians and others who saved stolen cultural treasures during WWII and whose story is told in a major motion picture being released tomorrow, included within their ranks former and future employees of the National Park Service.


Office of Communications - The NPS will award grants this year that will help more than 350 communities improve local parks, establish trails, access rivers, and protect special places through its Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program.


Montezuma Castle NM - Ruth Kohler, IT specialist for the Southern Arizona Office, retired on Friday January 31st, after over 32 years with the National Park Service and Department of the Interior.
