NATIONAL PARK SERVICE MORNING REPORT Thursday, March 6, 2014 INCIDENTS Cuyahoga Valley NP Barn On Park Land Burns To Ground On Tuesday, March 4th, the large barn associated with the Spicy Lamb Farm on Akron-Peninsula Road burned to the ground. Three local fire departments responded to the fire, which was discovered around 6 p.m. There were no personal injuries. Most of the animals were able to escape to safety, but there were some animal losses, including rabbits, chickens, and sheep. The dogs were freed by the quick action of first responders. Rangers made arrangements for one of the sheep dogs to be taken to a veterinarian. The dog suffered significant burns but is expected to make a full recovery. Rangers secured the scene throughout the night. The fire is being investigated through the Valley Fire District, with the park participating in the investigation. It may have been caused by a heat lamp used to keep lambs that were born that day warm. The Spicy Lamb Farm, which is on park-owned property, focuses on sheep, grazing services, and education. It is one of 11 farms in the park that are part of a special program called the Countryside Initiative. Ranger Lois Neff was IC.
