Amistad NRA

Man Killed In Jump From Cliff Into Lake


On May 16th, a 24-year-old man died after he jumped off of a 65-foot-high cliff into Lake Amistad.


Two of the man's friends witnessed and photographed the jump, not immediately realizing that when he wasn't just playing when he hit the water and didn't move.  They called 911 a short time later.  


NPS divers recovered his body in 11 feet of water.  The Val Verde County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation with NPS assistance.  An autopsy has been ordered.  Alcohol is believed to have been a factor.

Big Thicket NP

Man Drowns In Attempt To Swim Across Creek


A 20-year-old man from the local area drowned in the Village Creek Corridor Unit late on the afternoon of Thursday, May 15th. Friends and family reported that they saw him pulled under by the current while attempting to swim across the creek.


His body was recovered by the Silsbee Fire Department's dive team about an hour later. A local justice of the peace pronounced him dead at the scene.  The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing.

United States Park Police - On May 17th, the San Francisco Field Office, assisted by the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association and Life Touch, hosted a national “Fingerprint Your Child” event at the Presidio.
