NATIONAL PARK SERVICE MORNING REPORT Wednesday, May 28, 2014 INCIDENTS Capitol Reef NP Two Arrested For Auto Break-in On March 15th, rangers investigated a car clouting incident at the Chimney Rock trailhead. A vehicle battery and a significant amount of cash had been stolen from the vehicle. Immediately following the incident, several park employees came forth to report that they saw two suspicious people in the area at the time of the car clout. Through a joint investigation involving NPS rangers and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office deputies, two suspects were identified and interviewed. They were linked to both the park break-in and many other auto and business burglaries that had occurred in the area. Both face multiple felony charges. Wayne County is prosecuting. The collection contains an extensive array of objects and documents on the Battle of Gettysburg, its aftermath, its commemoration, and other parts of the American Civil War. Office of Communications - The Service has awarded $195,200 in grants from the National Center for Preservation Technology & Training to assist with projects using science and technology for historic preservation. Northeast Region - Morristown National Historical Park is participating in a new virtual exhibit honoring New Jersey during its 350th anniversary. The exhibit is hosted by Garden State Legacy, an innovative and expansive online history journal dedicated to all of New Jersey's history. Park Facility Management Division - On May 12th, an electronic memo was issued announcing the 2014 My Green Parks video contest. The text includes a link with information on how to submit an image. United States Park Police - On May 12th, the National Association of Police Organizations presented its 2014 Top Cops awards. Among those honored were USPP Officers Carl Hiott and Andrew Wong for their acts of courage during the Navy Yard shootings last September. Death Valley NP - Terry Baldino, chief of interpretation and education at Death Valley National Park, will retire on May 29th following 35 years of government service. Gulf Islands NS - Dianne Westfaul, chief of business administrative services, is retiring on May 30th after more than 39 years of federal service.
