Fort Larned NHS - Over 400 visitors came to Fort Larned National Historic Site in Kansas on Saturday, August 30th, to help celebrate the park's 50th anniversary as a National Park Service site.


Today's Almanac - Winter storm watches and warnings are up for parts of Montana and Wyoming. Strong thunderstorms with high winds, heavy rain and flash flooding are forecast for the Upper Midwest.


Jefferson NEM - Following the killing of an unarmed man by a police officer in nearby Ferguson, Missouri, in early August, the park provided a forum for a number of associated events, including speeches, a vigil, peaceful demonstrations and educational programs.


Northeast Region - On August 14th, youth representatives from 12 national park and partner programs hosted the eighth annual Massachusetts Parks Youth Summit at Boston Harbor Islands NRA and the Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center.


Biscayne NP - Law enforcement patrol boats at Biscayne National Park are being outfitted with rugged new wireless computer systems. The system is currently operational on one park boat and being expanded to other boats and vehicles.


Historical Documentation Programs - Heritage Documentation Programs has announced this year's recipients of the Charles E. Peterson Prize and the Leicester B. Holland Prize, both annual measured drawing competitions.


Intermountain Region - Ben Hawkins passed away peacefully on September 4th following a long and courageous battle with a blood disease. A memorial service is being planned for 10 a.m. on September 20th in Golden, Colorado.


Yosemite NP - Arrangements have been completed for a celebration of the life of Steve Thompson, retired chief of the park's branch of wildlife management, who died in an auto accident on August 26th.
