OTHER NEWS The following stories are among those in today's webpage editions of InsideNPS (available to NPS employees only) and the Morning Report (available to all readers): Santa Monica Mountains NRA - In an effort to introduce families and first-time visitors to the joys of outdoor activities, Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area hosted its inaugural Recreation Festival on Saturday, October 25th. Today's Almanac - A strong cold front will usher a much colder air mass into the central and eastern states. Temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees below average in some areas. Heavy snow is possible in the central Appalachians tonight. Office of Communications - As part of Director Jarvis' ongoing commitment to engage in dialogue with all members of the NPS family, he will host his next monthly webchat on Tuesday, November 4th, at 4:00 p.m. EST. Cultural Resources Directorate - The NPS and George Washington University's Museum Studies Department held a two-day training event on September 17th and 18th at the Jack Morton Auditorium on GWU's Foggy Bottom campus. Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller NHP - Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller NHP's New Birth of Freedom: A Walk Through the Civil War Home Front in Woodstock, Vermont, a 32-page color booklet, is the recipient of the National Association for Interpreters 2014 Media Award in the book category. Timucuan E&HP - Barbara Goodman, superintendent of Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve, will retire on January 3rd after 33 years with the National Park Service. Fossil Butte NM - Anne Bluemel will retire from over 27 years with the National Park Service on October 31st. She has held the administrative position at Fossil Butte National Monument for her entire NPS career.
