OTHER NEWS The following stories are among those in today's webpage editions of InsideNPS (available to NPS employees only) and the Morning Report (available to all readers): Vicksburg NMP - Vicksburg National Military Park joined with several partners earlier this month to sponsor two days of special programming marking the 140th anniversary of The Vicksburg Riots of 1874. Today's Almanac - A series of Pacific storms will bring moderate to heavy rainfall along the California coast and snow to the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Northeast Region - Approximately 125 safety coordinators, managers, specialists and safety committee members from the Service's three Eastern regions met at NCTC during the first week of December to focus on NPS safety issues. Office of Communications - Citizen scientists will once again fan out across America and America's national parks this holiday season to count birds during the National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count, conducted annually since 1900. Midwest Region - Sherda Williams, currently superintendent at First Ladies NHS and James Garfield NHS, has been selected as the next superintendent for Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site. Chesapeake and Ohio Canal NHP - John A. Noel has been selected as the park's new deputy superintendent. He assumed his new duties in mid-November. Northeast Region - Mary Clifford, a budget analyst in Northeast Regional Office, will retire on December 31st following a 36 year career with the National Park Service. Big South Fork NR&RA - Ranger Barry Melloan has retired following 27 years of dedicated service to the National Park Service.
