PARK NATURE TRAILS

Everyone interested in Hawaiian plants will want to walk on the self-guiding nature trails in the park.

There are two of these trails in the Kilauea Section. The Kipuka Puaulu Trail, one mile long, passes through an area of well developed soil and vegetation that has been surrounded by more recent lava flows. It is a place of outstanding interest because of the varied plantlife. The Halemaumau Trail is 3-1/2 miles long, and many of Kilauea Crater's plants are identified along the trailside. Free self-guiding booklets for both areas are available at Park Headquarters.

At the Haleakala Section, introduced pines and other conifers, as well as native plants, are labeled for your enjoyment on the Hosmer Grove Nature Trail.
