FOREWORD.

This publication is the first number of MESA VERDE NOTES, Volume III. Because of the great number of requests for more issues that come to the park, we wish to clarify our publication policy.

We strongly believe that a more constructive result is achieved if MESA VERDE NOTES are published at such time as sufficient number of worth while articles are collected, rather than at a specific time. Therefore, we make no effort to present regular monthly issues. Our limited personnel precludes such an attempt. The constantly increasing number of individuals who submit articles for MESA VERDE NOTES is most encouraging and we hope that this interest will continue to develop.

In accordance with policy we plan to publish at least three issues, and possibly four, before another snow flies.

The block print of Square Tower House on the cover of this number was done by Ann Bauer. All other illustrations are the work of Lyle E. Bennett.

We wish to express our appreciation to Lilian White Spencer for her "Hymn of the Pueblos," and to Lewis T. Barry for his article on Mesa Verde Scelopori.
