HAIL! HAIL! THE GANG'S ALL HERE!

Hail! Hail! The Gang's All Here!

Well, the Robins are back; many Varied Thrushes have returned; the Nuthatch's characteristic "yank! yank!" was a common note among the firs a few days ago; several Bluebirds have been reported; the first bear tracks of the season were noted near the garbage pits -- the bruin clan's old stamping ground -- and the Pussy Willows are out at the Nisqually Entrance. Now will someone please page Mistress Spring? Tell her the skiing here in the Park is fine! Yes it seems as though the vanguard of the "gang" is back again but it seems as if they will have to cool their heels a little.

The awakening of Spring is at hand here on the "Mountain". Among the birds old friends will return and migrants, passing through to other regions, abundant moisture which, with the welcome sunshine, will promote a progressive flower garden -- climaxed by the brilliant summer display in the high, alpine parks a few months hence. Bear, Whistling Marmot and Ground Squirrels, first view the world through ages heavy with the sleep of hibernation, soon take their place among their fellows in the woods that team with life's activity. Even the rivers share in this annual awakening for their waters will soon be murky with glacial flour -- the tiny rock particles, product of the the glacial movement un the influence of the warm sunshine. And so we welcome thew new season!
