![Welcome to 1930!](vol8-1a2.jpg)
A sinking sun paints all with eerie light --
And with it sinks the year's neglected hopes --
Our valley, hemmed by densely wooded slopes,
Is steeped in sombre shadows of the night.
--- --- ---
But there, aloft, "The Mountain" rises skyward
Surmounts the forest's sable-vested spires,
And there the year's fast ebbing light's a bouyant byword
A New Year's promise in its sunset fires.
