Diablo Lake Overlook
(Milepost 131)

Mushrooms

This area offers beautiful views of Diablo Lake, Sourdough Mountain, Colonial and Pyramid Peaks. In early spring look for Mountain Bluebirds from the parking lot as well as Red Crossbills, Chipping, White-crowned and Fox Sparrows. Summer brings in Violet-green and Tree Swallows, Cedar Waxwings and Dark-eyed Juncos.

This is a great area for close observation of small mammals such as Golden-mantled Ground Squirrels, Pikas, and Townsend's Chipmunks. Unfortunately, these animals are being fed by well-meaning visitors. Unnatural human food can cause sickness and sometimes death for these critters, as well as making them dependent on outside forces for their survival. Above all, please do not contribute to this habit. Feeding the animals in any way is against park policy and is a ticketable offence. DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS!!
