INTRODUCTION GEOLOGIC GUIDE By Rowland W. Tabor * * * * * * * INTRODUCTION The traveler may enjoy mountains as abstractions, as colorful designs not needing analytical thought, but a deeper, more meaningful pleasure can be had from the mountain scene if the viewer knows a little of the processes which have created it. A panorama may be enough to attract the summit seeker, but there is also much to be seen on close approach to hillside and rock. This guide deals with geologic process and rocks; we look here at the origin of some rocks around Blue Mountain and contemplate the erosion which has carved the mountains and exposed the rocks to view. This discussion is too brief to delve into all the fundamentals of Olympic geology, and the visitor to Deer Park may want to read Danner's Geo1ogy of Olympic National Park* for additional information.
