Chapter One

1 The question has been raised in the past of whether the appropriate name for the military encampment occupied by the Royal Marines should be English Camp or British Camp. This topic will be discussed later in this document. The current accepted name for the site is English Camp, and for that reason the author has used that title.

Chapter Two

1 For the purposes of this document, the spelling of "Clallam" follows the North American Handbook of American Indians. Presently, two other accepted spellings exists, Klallam or S'Klallam, the later being used in treaties between the tribe and the United States Government.
