LETTER #1
Dear Reader: This fifth volume of selected papers from the George Rogers Clark Trans-Appalachian Frontier History Conferences marks a significant milestone in the conference's history. Bound between the covers of this volume are selected papers from the 1991 and 1992 conferences which represent the ninth and tenth years of these annual meetings. During these 10 years, 80 papers have been presented on a wide range of subjects relating to the frontier of the Trans-Appalachian area. An important aspect of this accomplishment is the publication of the conference papers. Superbly edited, these research efforts have become a permanent record for reference, while also providing enjoyable reading. It is with great pleasure that the National Park Service has been able to help make these published papers available. This would not have been possible without the support and assistance of Vincennes University and the cooperative relationship which has existed between the two organizations throughout the years. I look forward to this continued relationship during the years ahead. To you, the reader, may you find this volume informative and enjoyable reading. Sincerely,
