Brief summary of incident:  Family was canoeing.  Canoe capsized, pinning victim
between canoe and some willows. Father held boy's head up out of water for
approximately 30 minutes.  Then water washed over and father lost the boy.

Incident location: Approximately 100 yards above Spring Creek on the
Buffalo National River

Summary:   Family rented canoe.  Inexperienced with canoeing.  Canoe capsized,
everyone O.K.  Boy swam downstream to retrieve canoe, got pinned between canoe
and willows.  Father kept boy's head above water for about 30 minutes.  Then
current pulled boy under.  Body recovered from underneath canoe at approximately
4:55pm on 6/08/86.  Coroner's report pending.  Probable cause of death-drowning.
Father claims boy was wearing flotation device. Not on body when recovered.
Incident occurred at approximately 12:00 noon on 6/08/86

Brief summary of incident: Victim, L.B., Age 13, Mansfield, Louisiana, was
canoing with parents approximately 100 yards above Spring Creek on the Buffalo River,
June 8, when, at about noon, the canoe overturned.  L.B. was pinned against the canoe
and willow branches.  Father held his head above water for about 30 minutes, until current
swept him away.   Report was fatality report, no information on body recovery, etc.

Incident location:  BUFFALO NATIONAL RIVER — 100 yards above Spring Creek

Summary:  Jeana Gray called back at 1318 — June 9.  Additional information:
When the canoe capsized, there were three persons in it — mother, father, and son
(victim).  The boy swam downstream to recover the canoe and became trapped in it,
or trapped against the shore.  Father swam down to assist, and held the boy's head up
until the boy was swept away and drowned.  Boy was wearing flotation gear, according
to father.  Body recovered, 6/8/86 — 1655 hrs.  The body did not have flotation
gear when recovered.  There was no formal SAR, just normal evacuation techniques.
Canoe was rented from a park concessioner — BENNETT'S CANOE RENTALS.
