Summary:
NPS personnel were notified of an incident which occurred within the park.
G.C. reportedly talked with his sister before driving into the park last
evening. He had been despondent for several days due to the death of a friend
who had been killed in a motorcycle accident last weekend. G.C.'s brother-in-
law, expressing concern for G.C.'s well-being, decided to go to the park after
G.C.. He went to Lee Hill Turnout and saw G.C. slumped in the front seat of
his vehicle. He thought G.C. was asleep and tried to wake him, as he did so,
he saw a handgun on the front seat which he then threw into the backseat. He
also observed a bullet wound to the temple of G.C.'s head. He pushed G.C. to
the side and started the vehicle to drive G.C. to the hospital. As he left
the park he was able to stop a city police officer who helped him transport
G.C. to the emergency room. G.C. was pronounced dead at the hospital. An an
investigation is ongoing by FBI and NPS.
