Incident Summary
J.G.R., 33, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma was swimming alone while his
daughter and a friend watched from the shore. J.G.R. indicated in jest on
several occasions that he was in trouble. He swam into deeper water to
retrieve a ski kicked off by a friend skiing near him. While attempting to
retrieve the ski J.G.R. began yelling to his daughter for help. She thought
he was only playing again and ignored his cries for help. Several minutes
later she realized that he really was in trouble and ran for help. Park
rangers responded and found J.G.R. floating face down in the water. CPR was
administered and he was transported to the Sulphur Oklahoma hospital. When
he arrived at the hospital J.G.R. had a pulse but was not breathing. He was
later transferred to a hospital in Oklahoma City where he died that evening.
