Incident Summary
Park rangers and state of Tennessee drug enforcement agents discovered a
plot of marijuana growing 1/2 mile inside the park near State Rt. 32. The
plot, in the Tobes Creek - Cosby area, contained 811, three to four foot
plants. The plants were destroyed. There are no suspects at this time and
no arrests have been made as Rangers were unable to set up surveillance on
the plot due to lack of manpower.

Incident Summary
A.C., 23, a clerk-typist with the Engineering and Safety Services
Division, WASO, was killed in a motor vehicle accident on the Coconino
National Forest just outside Grand Canyon National Park. A.C. was killed
when she was thrown from a jeep when it rolled on a four-wheel drive road in
the National Forest. Rangers and para-medics from the park responded and
found Clark dead on the scene. The driver and another passenger are
currently hospitalized in serious condition with head and facial injuries.
A third passenger was treated and released at the local clinic. Evidence at
the scene suggests the involvement of alcohol. Coconino County Sheriffs'
Department is investigating and charges are possible.

A.C.'s father, W., is an interpretive planner at the Harpers
Ferry Center. A funeral will be held at the Grand Canyon.

Incident Summary
M.S.M., 27, of Page, Arizona, was killed when the boat he was a
passenger in was struck broadside by another boat. The two boats were
racing and had reached approximately 75 mile per hour. M.S.M. was in a boat
which was operated by J.S., 25, also of Page. Thinking that the
race was over, J.S. turned to the left into the path of the second
boat, which hit him amidships. J.S. had not seen the second boat due
to the large "rooster tail" of spray sent up by his boat. A passenger in
the second boat sustained minor abrasions and lacerations. J.S. had
been drinking and a blood alcohol test was given; the results have not yet
returned. No charges have been filed at this time.

Incident Summary
C.S.K., 16, of Cumberland, Wisconsin, was one of a party of nine
who rented three canoes from a concessioner in the state park adjacent to
St. Croix. Koehn and the two others in his canoe were in waist-deep water
walking their canoe when C.S.K. stepped into a drop-off. One of his
companions attempted to rescue him, but was not successful. A search was
mounted by six area agencies; C.S.K.'s body was recovered later that
afternoon. C.S.K. apparently could not swim, and the only PFD (personal
flotation device) available to him was a cushion in the canoe. There's no
indication that alcohol was involved in the incident.

Incident Summary
C.H., W. and T.H., ages not known, were stopped at a pullout
just outside the park. C.H. and W.H. were playing around and fell 75
vertical feet and then rolled another 75 feet on a 40 percent slope.
Rangers responded at the request of the Yakama County Sheriff's Office and
and initiated CPR to C.H. who had suffered major injuries in the fall. T.H.
had sustained only bruises and a possible broken wrist. Both victims were
raised to the road and transported to the hospital. During transport T.H.
became distraught over the incident and began creating a "scene". He was
finally let out of the ambulance because the attendents could not handle him
and care for C.H. Rangers picked T.H. up and held him until Sheriff's
Deputies could respond. C.H. is currently on life support equipment and is
not expected to live if it is removed.
