OFFICE NOTES
1) The Colorado National Monument Association is offering a
reproduction of the bronze, basrelief Stephen Mather tablets
found in many parks in commemoration of the Service's 75th
anniversary. Shortly after Mather's death, Congress honored him
by authorizing the original plaques, most of which were formally
dedicated at simultaneous ceremonies throughout the NPS on July
4, 1932, the 75th anniversary of Mather's birth. All work is to
be performed by Gorham Bronze, the same company whose foundry
cast the original edition some sixty years ago. Completed
tablets will measure approximately 32 inches by 27 inches by one
inch and will be entirely faithful to the original 1931 design
in terms of artist's intent, choice of material, quality of
finish, surface treatment and weight. The duplicates will be
specially marked and sequentially numbered to reflect their
order of production. The cost will likely be between $1,250 and
$1,300 plus shipping. If you're interested in obtaining a
plaque, please contact either the association's general manager
or Hank Schoch at 303-858-3617. [Hank Schoch, COLM]
