NATIONAL PARK SERVICE
                               MORNING REPORT

To: All National Park Service Areas and Offices

From: Division of Ranger Activities, Washington Office

Day/Date: Saturday, August 8, 1998

                            *** EDITOR'S NOTE ***

The next three messages contain the text of a new quarterly summary of
what's going on in the many programs administered by the Washington divisions
and field centers that report to the associate director for park operations
and education in WASO. The objective, as noted in AD Maureen Finnerty's
introductory note, is to provide you with a quarterly snapshot of significant
activities in those offices, many/most of which have direct impacts on field
operations.

This first report is long because the objective has been to give you a sense
of the breadth and complexity of park operations at the Washington level.
Future quarterly summaries will focus on major initiatives and operational
information. Because of its length and because of the limited text buffer in
cc:Mail, it had to be divided into several parts. We intend to make it
briefer in the future.

This report has been created to provide you with information that may impact
your work and your park. If you'd like to see less or more of any section or
have other ideas on how it can be improved, please send notes to the editor,
Bill Halainen at NP-DEWA.
