NPS Wildland Fire Strategic Plan Released

Y14 (9560)

April 2, 2004

Memorandum

To: Regional Directors

From: Associate Director, Visitor and Resource Protection /s/ Karen Taylor-Goodrich

Subject: Wildland Fire Management Strategic Plan

I am pleased to announce that the National Park Service's Wildland Fire Management Strategic Plan 2003-2008, is now available at: http://inside.nps.gov/programs/divisioncustommenu.cfm?menuid=2059&div=73.

This multi-year strategy represents the specific mission of the Wildland Fire Management Program and provides direction for prioritizing regional and park level budget requests and work plans. It is consistent with and subordinate to the NPS Strategic Plan, FY 2001-2005. An important aspect of the Wildland Fire Management program is integration and collaboration with NPS natural and cultural resource management programs. The program utilizes and welcomes the abilities of employees from all disciplines.

The Wildland Fire Management Program reflects NPS mandates, policies and regulations, and interagency and interdepartmental collaborations. The National Fire Plan, the Collaborative Approach for Reducing Wildland Fire Risks to Communities and the Environment (10-Year Comprehensive Strategy) and the Joint Interagency Performance Goals provide direction for the NPS and other Federal and State land management fire programs.

If you have questions or need additional information, please contact your regional Fire Management Officer, or National Fire Management Officer Sue Vap, 208-387-5225.

Thank you for your interest and participation in Wildland Fire Management.
