INCIDENTS

Boston National Historical Park (MA)
Convention Kicks Off In Boston

Boston National Historical Park hosted three Democratic National Convention delegate parties in the Charlestown Navy Yard on Sunday, July 25th. Delegates from Nevada, New Jersey and South Dakota attended receptions at the USS Constitution Museum, Pier 1 and the historic 1805 Commandant's House, and were led on special tours of USS Constitution by Navy sailors. Security was tight and there were no reported incidents during the receptions. National Park Service law enforcement rangers did make one arrest on Sunday when a 50 year-old woman attempted to ignite a fire with a cigarette lighter outside the Old South Meeting House. The park will continue to host CNN at the Charlestown Navy Yard for the duration of the convention. The program Crossfire will originate in the park today at 4:30 p.m. EDT.

FIRE MANAGEMENT

NIFC/NPS Fire and Aviation Management
National Fire Situation Highlights — Monday, July 26, 2004

Preparedness Level 3

Initial attack was moderate yesterday in the Great Basin and Northwest, but light elsewhere. Only five of the 276 new fires escaped initial attack.

Very high to extreme fire indices were reported in Alaska, Arizona, California, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

Weather Forecast

An upper trough moving into the Pacific Northwest will bring dry and somewhat cooler weather along with gusty winds east of the Cascades. A strong upper high

remains centered over Southern California with the axis of the ridge extending into Montana. Hot weather will continue over Southern California, while drier conditions and gusty winds develop over western Nevada. Thunderstorms will be found over Montana and the Eastern Great Basin, Rocky Mountain and Southwest Areas. In Alaska, a south flow over the area will bring gusty winds and low humidity to portions of the central interior and north slopes of the Alaska Range.

Warnings and Watches

A RED FLAG WARNING has been issued for strong winds over portions of Alaska's central interior and the north slopes of the Alaska range.
