Car Fire Ruled Possible Arson

During the early morning hours of Sunday, January 4th, protection rangers came upon a smoldering early model Cadillac backed into the handicapped parking slip at the Fort Harrison picnic area. Henrico Fire Department firefighters assisted the rangers in extinguishing the blaze. The area was closed off as a crime scene and an arson investigator determined that the fire was suspicious in nature. A handgun found on the rear passenger floorboard is believed to have possibly been used in another crime. The incident is being investigated by both the Henrico police and fire departments and the park. [Tim Mauch, Chief Ranger]
