Department of the Interior - President Barack Obama was a special guest at DOI's 160th anniversary celebration yesterday. The President joined Secretary Salazar for a program that included patriotic songs, a Native American blessing, and a video montage.

Recreation Fee Program - Acting Director Wenk recently signed a memorandum entitled "Recreation Fee Rates for CY 2010," freezing all current 2009 rates for existing FLREA entrances and expanding amenity and special recreation permit fees. Limited exceptions will be considered on a case by case basis.

Badlands NP - NPS rangers who participated in Operation Dakota Peacekeeper have been recognized with awards for their efforts in combating crime on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. More than three dozen NPS rangers participated in the interagency operation.

Fire and Aviation Management - The winners of the 2008 National Park Service fuels and ecology awards have been announced.

Pacific West Region - Kathy Jope, chief of the regional natural resource program in Pacific West Region, will retire on April 3rd after more than 30 years with the National Park Service.
