Searchers Find Missing Man In Park

Relatives of a missing 62-year-old man from Cuyahoga Falls reported that they'd found his vehicle in a parking lot on Riverview road on the morning of September 16th. The man, who'd been missing since the previous day, was reported to be despondent and had a history of depression. A note was found inside the vehicle describing where he might be found. Efforts were focused on this area, which was around the old truss bridge crossing the Cuyahoga River south of the Jaite Mill site. This was determined to be Cleveland Metroparks property. A unified incident command was established with Brecksville Fire & Rescue, Cleveland Metroparks, and the park. Ivan Kassovic served as the NPS incident commander. The multi-agency search effort included a search and rescue boat team, two dog teams, mounted horse patrol rangers, a dive team, and ground searchers. Several items associated with the man, including an empty sedatives container, were found at the bridge, and a search dog alerted to the area below the bridge. He was found in the early evening by National Park Service protection rangers on NPS-owned property in the vegetation on the east side of the riverbank, less than 200 yards from Highland Road. He was alert and conscious, but confused as to the date, time, and location where he was and also exhausted and dehydrated. He was transported by a Brecksville ambulance to Metro Hospital for treatment and evaluation. [Chris Ryan, Chief Ranger]
