Park Prepares For Hurricane Ida


Due to the probable track of Hurricane Ida, both of the park's districts are now under a hurricane watch. The National Hurricane Center is forecasting hurricane conditions in the Florida District by tomorrow morning. The park's Type 3 incident management team has been activated, and the Fort Pickens Unit, all Mississippi Islands, and the east end of Perdido Key were closed on Sunday. The Fort Pickens campground has been evacuated and most residents are being evacuated. [Clayton Jordan, Chief Ranger]

Federal Protective Service - Per order of President Obama, United States flags at federal buildings are to be flown at half-staff until Tuesday at dusk in tribute to those who lost their lives during the shootings at Fort Hood, Texas, late last week.


Office of Public Affairs - Wednesday is Veterans Day, during which we honor the service of those who have fought to protect our country and defend the principles on which it was founded. Special events will be held at many NPS sites.


Risk Management Division - Applications are now being accepted for a joint Division of Risk Management - SCA summer internship program that provides students to support park injury prevention efforts and provides parks with a cost-effective way to enhance their visitor safety programs. They are due by year's end.


Yosemite NP - Scholarships are currently available for an executive leadership seminar for park executives set for next year. Applications are due by November 20th.


Office of Legislative and Congressional Affairs - This week's update on past and upcoming hearings and the status of legislation pertinent to the National Park Service.
