Two Arrested For Production Of Methamphetamine

On the afternoon of January 16th, ranger Kelly Charbonneau stopped to offer assistance to the driver of what appeared to be a disabled vehicle parked at a pullout off Highway 7 just north of Pruitt Bridge. The driver, A.S., and her passenger, M.A., initially lied to Charbonneau, reporting that the vehicle was broken down and that they had already made arrangements for having it moved. Charbonneau recognized one of the women as a previous methamphetamine offender and noted that she appeared to be very nervous. He also saw that the vehicle's registration was expired and asked for the women's identifications. M.A. gave Charbonneau a false identification, but with the help of park dispatch he eventually learned her real identity, as well as the fact that A.S.'s driver's license was suspended. While speaking with the women, Charbonneau noted open containers of alcohol in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a rolled-up cold pack, the top of which had been cut off and granules removed; 80 marijuana seeds in a foil wrapper; and a 20-ounce Coke bottle that had been converted into a one-pot meth cooker. The bottle contained cold pack granules, ether, strips balls of lithium, and roughly four grams of methamphetamine. Charbonneau detained both women and requested assistance. Rangers Todd Garrett and Justin Gibbs, investigators from the Newton County Sheriff's Office, and officers from the 14th Judicial Task Force responded. The investigators arrested A.S. and M.A. and Garrett and Gibbs transported them to the Boone County jail. While searching the women, Gibbs and Garrett found additional meth product, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia on their persons. Charbonneau, the investigators, and the task force personnel remained on scene with the vehicle until the entire scene was processed and clean. An investigation is on-going.
