INCIDENTS


Natchez Trace Parkway

One Killed, One Seriously Injured In Parkway Accident


On the evening of Sunday, February 28th, E.C., 63, of French Camp, Mississippi, was driving northbound on the parkway when his Chevy pickup went off the road and hit a tree. Rangers and Attala County deputies and fire and EMS personnel responded. E.C. and his passenger, S.R., 40, were both taken by ambulance to Montfort Jones Hospital in Kosciusko, Mississippi, where E.C. was pronounced dead. S.R. was airlifted to University Medical Center in Jackson with serious injuries. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. [Michael Foster, Chief Ranger]

Everglades NP - Four urban families, ranging from two to seven members, came to the park as part of the Camping Adventure with My Parents (CAMP) program, challenging their abilities and tackling some fears during a two-day, one-night adventure that also included a night hike searching for alligators.


Olympic NP - Thirteen native fishers were released on Saturday, February 20th, within the Elwha and Quinault valleys of Olympic National Park, capping a three-year restoration project and bringing the total of reintroduced animals to 90. Photo.


NPS Alumni - Manus “Jack” Fish, 81, who retired as regional director of National Capital Region, passed away on February 27th in Leesburg, Virginia.


Natural Resource Program Center - Dr. Margaret Wild has received the Department of Interior's Superior Service Award. Margaret and her team were honored for the exemplary manner in which they have served NPS on wildlife health matters.
