INCIDENTS


Biscayne NP

Park Access Road And Visitor Center Reopen


Land access to Biscayne National Park at Convoy Point reopened yesterday after being temporarily closing on Wednesday due to a fire burning alongside Canal Road. Local authorities have reopened Canal Road, although drivers are being advised to be alert for smoke and fallen limbs.  The Dante Fascell Visitor Center has reopened and concession boat tours are again being offered. The park will post updates on its web site  HYPERLINK "http://www.nps.gov/bisc" "_blank" www.nps.gov/bisc. Big Cypress NP - The Huckabee Fire, which was ignited last Friday, possibly by an arsonist, has now burned nearly 20,000 acres. Smoke from the fire combined with early morning fog earlier this week to force closure of a state highway and the primary interstate serving South Florida. The fire is now about 65% contained.


Office of Communications - The NPS has announced the awarding of 10 grants totaling more than $1.4 million to help preserve and interpret the World War II confinement sites of Japanese Americans. 


Carl Sandburg Home NHS - Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site recognized winning entries from the 2013 Student Poetry Contest on the evening of March 22nd.  More than 240 poems were submitted from across the nation for the annual contest. 


Servicewide Training Calendar - A compilation of upcoming online training courses and webinars available to employees from across the Service. Added to this week's calendar is a webinar next Wednesday on the importance of clean air to national parks.
