INCIDENTS


Natchez Trace Parkway

Bicyclist Killed In Accident


On the evening of Tuesday, April 9th, emergency responders were dispatched to an accident involving a motor vehicle and a bicyclist on the parkway near milepost 77. G.W., 52, of Bay Minette, Alabama, was riding his bicycle north on the parkway when he was struck by a Nissan Versa driven by Norris Edney, 52, of Clinton, Mississippi. G.W. was pronounced dead at the scene. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours as a park reconstruction specialist analyzed the scene. The investigation is expected to take several weeks to complete before a cause can be determined. Agencies assisting with the accident and investigation include the FBI and the Hinds County Sheriff's Department and Coroner's Office. Castillo de San Marcos NM - On Tuesday, April 2nd, Florida Governor Rick Scott and his full cabinet visited Castillo de San Marcos as part of a week-long celebration of the 500th anniversary of Juan Ponce de Leon's landing in “La Florida.”  


Office of Communications - President Obama's Fiscal Year 2014 budget requests $2.6 billion to support the National Park Service. The budget provides a net programmatic increase of $26.1 million over 2012 to fund essential programs and emerging operational needs, plus $30.5 million in fixed cost increases.
