Turkey Poacher Caught In Park

Ranger Gabe Bell contacted a man inside the park near the boundary fence along Farm Road 182 in Greene County on the morning of Sunday, March 24th. The man told Bell that he had shot at a coyote and was out checking to see if he had hit it. Further investigation revealed that the man had shot from inside his motor vehicle across a roadway and into the park, killing three large wild turkeys. During a follow-up interview inside the man's Springfield residence, he admitted that the park was on his regular "milk run." He was cited for each dead turkey and his firearm was seized as evidence; he faces several state charges as well. The Missouri Department of Conservation and the Greene County Sheriff's Office assisted Bell with the initial contact. [John M. Sutton, Chief Ranger]
