INCIDENTS


Lincoln Memorial

Vandal Splashes Green Paint On Memorial


Green paint was thrown on the front of the Lincoln Memorial on the morning of July 26th. Later that same day, green paint was also found on the HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Henry" Joseph Henry statue located in front of the Smithsonian Castle on the National Mall.  


On July 29th, Washington Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested a woman identified as J.T. in connection with vandalism to the Washington National Cathedral, where green paint had been throw inside.   


Park Police detectives are working closely with the Metropolitan Police Department, investigating whether J.T. may have been involved in the incidents that occurred at the Lincoln Memorial and the Joseph Henry Statue.

Young Mother Charged With Death Of Newborn


An 18-year-old Illinois woman gave birth in the Platte River Campground late on the evening of July 22nd. Family members camping with her were unaware she was pregnant and immediately called 911 to request an ambulance.  


The woman and the near-term infant were transported to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, where the infant was declared dead the following morning.  An autopsy revealed that the infant had died of blunt trauma.


The Michigan State Police are leading the investigation and charging the woman with murder.

Office of Risk Management - The summer 2013 edition of Public Risk Management News, the newsletter of the Office of Risk Management, has been posted to the web and is now available.


Intermountain Region - Cassity Bromley has been appointed the acting superintendent of Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. Jerry Case, the previous park superintendent, retired earlier this month.
