Lake Mead NRA

Las Vegas Man Dies During Triathlon


A Las Vegas man died of unknown causes while swimming in a triathlon in the park on Saturday, October 19th.


A kayaker who was patrolling the event at Boulder Beach that morning flagged down rangers who were nearby on a National Park Service patrol boat. When the rangers arrived, the swimmer was found to be unresponsive. CPR was begun and he was taken by ambulance to Boulder City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.


The Clark County Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

Andersonville NHS - Andersonville National Historic Site recently observed National POW/MIA Recognition Day by hosting former Iraq POW Shoshana Johnson. 


Office of Legislative and Congressional Affairs - This week's update on past and upcoming hearings, newly introduced bills, and the status of legislation of interest to the National Park Service. This report covers activities in Congress since Friday, September 27th.


Sitka NHP - Ellen Hope Hays, former superintendent of Sitka NHP, passed away on October 8th. She was the first woman and the first Alaska Native to be appointed superintendent of a national park in the Pacific Northwest.
