Pilot Escapes Injury In Plane Crash In Park

Park dispatch was notified of a possible downed aircraft near the Canepatch backcountry campsite just after 9 a.m. on November 11th.

Rangers responded along with personnel onboard aircraft from the U.S. Coast Guard, Miami-Dade Police Department, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.

The crew of a Coast Guard helicopter located the aircraft and the pilot, who was the plane's sole occupant. The pilot was uninjured and was transported to USCG Air Station Miami.

A joint multi-agency investigation into the cause of the crash continues at this time.
