Martin Luther King, Jr. NHS - On December 10th, Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site commemorated the 50th anniversary of Dr. King receiving the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize with the opening of an exhibit entitled “A Global Citizen.”


Today's Almanac - A mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow will spread from the southern Great Plains into the Midwest. Another arctic front will bring frigid temperatures and snow to the northern tier states.


Carlsbad Caverns NP - For two nights in early December, visitors to Carlsbad Caverns National Park toured the darkened cave, lit only by the lanterns they carried.


Office of Communications - The National Park Service's newest online travel itinerary highlights the 22 World Heritage Sites located in the United States.


Ozark NSR - Bill Black, superintendent of Ozark National Scenic Riverways, is retiring on January 3rd after 40 years with the National Park Service.


Craters of the Moon NM&P - Marci Garrison, the administrative officer for Craters of the Moon, is retiring on January 8th after 15 years of service to the staff and the park.


Padre Island NS - Rudy Villarreal has devoted 40 years and 5 months of service to Padre Island, the longest timeframe of any park employee.


Chihuahuan Desert Network - Dr. Hildy Reiser, science advisor for the Chihuahuan Desert Network, will retire on December 31st after more than 11 years with the National Park Service and nearly 30 years of federal service.


Padre Island NS - After almost 37 years of service, maintenance mechanic supervisor Glenda Hammond is retiring from the National Park Service.


Servicewide Training Calendar - The following have been added to this week's calendar - a series of green purchasing webinars in January and February, Parkmedic and EMT refresher courses at Great Smokies, and a winter EMS, survival and skills training course at Sequoia-Kings Canyon.
