Investigation Underway Into Significant Vandalism


Rangers are investigating a series of acts of vandalism that have occurred in the park over the past few weeks,


Substantial damage was inflicted to the Cape Point Campground, where a vehicle was used to deliberately destroy large areas of the landscape, grass, fences and signs and two portable port-a-potty structures were set on fire, resulting in substantial damage to the handicap bathroom facilities and adjacent fencing.

The North Carolina Beach Buggy Association is working with the National Park Service through the Dare County Crime Line office (252-473-3444) to offer a reward for information leading to the conviction of the responsible persons involved in these crimes.


Destruction of government property is a federal criminal violation, each subject up to a $5,000.00 fine and up to six months imprisonment.

Fire and Aviation Management - Nathan “Nate” Benson has been selected as the lead for the Fire Science and Ecology Program for the Branch of Wildland Fire, based at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho.
