Northeast Region - On the last two days of January, Fort Monroe NM and its partners commemorated the 150th anniversary of the Hampton Roads peace conference, a historic attempt to negotiate a peaceful end to the Civil War that took place on February 3, 1865, just two months before General Lee's surrender at Appomattox Courthouse.


World Ranger Congress - The Association of National Park Rangers, a member of the International Ranger Federation, is seeking host parks for shadow assignments for international delegates to IRF's Eighth World Ranger Congress in Colorado in May, 2016.


Office of Legislative and Congressional Affairs - This week's update on past and upcoming hearings, newly introduced bills, and the status of legislation of interest to the Service. This report covers activities in Congress through February 27th.


US Park Police - On February 17th, the United States Park Police hosted an awards, promotion and swearing in ceremony at the Anacostia Operations Facility in Washington, DC.


NPS Alumni - William “Bill” Wellman, who retired from a 43-year career with the Service in 2012, has received the Department of the Interior's Distinguished Service Award.
