Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island NMs - Actor LaVar Burton visited the Statue of Liberty National Monument to film a Reading Rainbow segment about immigration at Ellis Island. The episode, to be broadcast later this year, covers historical and contemporary immigration.


Pacific West Region - Sophia Walker, long-time budget analyst for Pacific West Region, passed away on April 19th. A resident of the San Francisco Bay Area most of her life, she's worked in the Comptroller's Office since 1999.


Office of Communications - The National Park Service has announced the award of $26 million for more than 100 initiatives that will help parks prepare for centennial visitors.


Office of Legislative and Congressional Affairs - This week's update on past and upcoming hearings, newly introduced bills, and the status of legislation of interest to the Service. This report covers activities in Congress for the week ending April 24th.
