The American people have a priceless heritage in their National Parks and monuments. These areas embody the most intriguing stories of nature in the rugged contours of their scenic grandeur but it is not enough to admire alone. One must understand the drama of natural forces, which are even today continuing on their methodical course, which were instrumental in preparing these regions for our eyes. In such an understanding lies the greatest value of a visit to a national park. One should "see" what he looks upon to enjoy and appreciate these areas properly.

Such is the purpose of the Naturalist or Educational Department - one of the units of a closely knit organization characteristic of each national park. Ranger-naturalists will be found at the three principal centers in the park and these men, schooled in the natural sciences and in methods of presenting scientific truths to the public in a popular manner, carry out a well defined program designed to aid you in really "seeing" this region. These services are absolutely free. They include illustrated, lectures with beautiful colored slides and motion pictures; field trips to points of interest varying in duration from two hours to one day, a park museum and several branch museums of natural history displays, "nature trails" along which are marked for identification the plants, trees and other things of interest and other similar features. Take advantage of these things. They are provided for your enjoyment and interest. They will aid you in getting infinitely more from your visit to a national park.
