BILLY OF COUGAR ROCK.

For ten years past, perhaps for ages, a small band of white Mountain Goat have wintered on the southern face of Cougar Rock a mile and a half above Longmire Springs on the automobile road. Last winter an old Billy and two Nannies were seen almost daily as they rested on a ledge of rock and looked down undisturbed by the dog teams and skiiers who passed on the road several hundred feet below. Billy and his band became quite well known to visitors and park employees.

This winter as soon as the snow began to fall three goat returned to Cougar Rock, apparently it is Billy and his harem again.

NOTE.

During the latter half of January and most of February the Naturalist will be in the east lecturing on Mount Rainier National Park and its wild life. This statement is made with the thought that some of the readers of Nature News Notes might like to learn of these lectures and thus hear more about the Park and see some splendid pictures of it.
