The National Park Story in Pictures

Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park

WATERTON-GLACIER INTERNATIONAL PEACE PARK, Canada-United States. View from the Canadian side, looking down Waterton Lake toward the mountains in Montana. In 1932, following legislation by the Parliament of the Dominion of Canada and the Congress of the United States, by proclamation of the President the Waterton Lakes National Park of Canada and the Glacier National Park in the United States became the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park—a new development in parks and in international relations. Creation of the international peace park was suggested at a joint meeting of the Rotarians of Alberta, Canada, and of the State of Montana. Only a wide swath cut through the forest indicates the international boundary. The Glacier Park Company and the Glacier Park Transport Company, respectively, operate the Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton Lake Park and scheduled bus transportation between the hotels in Glacier Park and the Prince of Wales.
