ABOUT THE AUTHOR

R. R. Reynolds was born on December 21, 1906 near Howard City, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan Forestry School with a B.S. in 1929 and an M.S. in 1930.

In July 1930, he joined the Southern Forest Experiment Station. He spent his first 3 years with the Station working on county Forest Economic Studies, and on case studies of individual companies. In 1933, the Crossett Experimental Forest opened, and Reynolds spent the next 34 years establishing and directing the research center. He is author or co-author of about 175 publications.

Reynolds retired from the Forest Service in 1969, but he has remained active in the forestry field, as a member of the Society of American Foresters and as a practicing tree farmer.
