Colorado A Classic Western Quarrel: A History of the Road Controversy at Colorado National Monument

As a part of the National Park Service's mission to protect and interpret its resources, it is important to make valuable, historical information readily available. To further that goal, I am pleased to present this volume in our occasional series of publications on the Intermountain Region's past. This history is the f1rst volume of Colorado National Monument's Administrative History. Other volumes relating to the creation of the monument and additional pertinent issues will be published over the next few years. The history, written by Lisa Schoch-Roberts as her Master's Thesis from Colorado State University, addresses many issues related to the development of the monument and its roads, the use of the roads and the importance the roads have played in the history of the monument and the surrounding area. The comprehensive coverage of the subject will aid present and future managers to protect the valuable resources at Colorado National Monument and will introduce new employees to the rich history of the monument's past.
