Old Horse Stables near Mansion
Stable No. 1 (right) is of rubble masonry stuccoed with pink mortar like Mansion and
is shown on the Joshua Barney Map of 1843. It may be of the 18th century
(see measured drawings) though it was modernized in the Victorian period
to look like the newer building.
Stable No. 2 (left) of cut stone
is later than 1843, not showing on the map of
that period.

ILLUSTRATION NO. 28. Farm Group, the Dairy
The fireplace would seem to be for the heating of water to clean the milk
cans and dairy equipment. In the later 19th century--after the closing
of the ironworks--dairying was an important activity of Hampton.
