Description: | Marching into Hell. Their tragic ordeal of privation and humiliation at the hands of the brutal Japanese began for the gaunt, weary defenders of Corregidor as they surrendered to the smirking enemy. Disclosure today (January 28th) reveal that these men, part of the force of 12,000 captured at the rock fortress of Manila Bay, were herded together like cattle and kept without food for seven days. When they were marched in humiliation through Manila, the weak and stumbling knocked right back into line. The photo came to the US by way of Lisbon. (National Archive 208- AA-Box 288- BB-4) |
